Reports of abuse of Afghan refugees as Iran continues deportations

As Afghans fleeing the Taliban face dwindling opportunities to seek safety in the West, many have attempted to cross into neighboring Iran. Tehran is warning that it cannot handle the additional refugees, and reports of mistreatment of the Afghans in Iran are leading to growing friction.

Italy: Puglia finances accommodation for 120 migrant farmworkers

The Puglia region has approved funding worth €158,000 to build a temporary guesthouse for some 120 foreign seasonal farm workers who will be employed for the cherry harvest season.

Ukraine situation getting worse as aid continues, UNICEF

UNICEF has denounced the worsening humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. The organization is continuing to provide aid to women and children in the country. An estimated 15.7 million people in the country need assistance, including 3 million minors, the agency said.

Refugees protest for rights in Tunis

214 men, women and children coming from countries such as Somalia, Sudan, Eritrea, and Ethiopia have for the past two months been protesting in front of UNHCR offices in Tunis, calling for their rights to be recognized. Alessandra Sciurba, a university researcher in Tunisia and former chairman and spokesperson of Mediterranea Saving Humans met some of them and listened to their story.

Geo Barents: Rescued migrants arrive in Sicily

After more than a week on board the rescue ship 'Geo Barents', 101 people have been allowed to disembark in Italy. Nearly 300 others, many of them minors, are still waiting at sea on the Ocean Viking rescue vessel.
